Eid Mubarak!

Maanantaina 28.7.2014 juhlittiin Ramadan kuukauden pääättymistä Eid-al Fitr juhlalla. Eid tarkoittaa arabiaksi juhla.

Monday 28th of July 2014 the end of month of Ramadan was celebrated with Eid-al-Fitr feast. Eid is an arabic word which means holiday.

Suuri joukko muslimeja pukeutuneena kauniisiin uusiin vaatteisiin kokoontuivat isolle jalkapallokentälle. Täällä Suomessa ei ole tarpeeksi isoja tiloja tällaisiin tilaisuuksiin, joten olemme jo monen vuoden ajan käyttäneet tätä samaa kuplahallia.

The day started with early wakening. In many country the Eid prayer is prayed very early in the morning but here in Finland we prayed our Eid prayer at 10 am. The time for the Eid prayer is when the sun has rise about two-three meters above the horizon but the prayer needs to be prayed before the sun has reached the meridian.  A large group of Muslims wearing beautiful new clothes were gathered in a big football field. Unfortunately here in Finland we do not have enough big spaces of occasions like this, so we have used this same bubble hall for many years.

After the Eid prayer and the sermon of the Iman people wished EID MUBARAK! (Happy holiday!) to each others. Some people will go home after the prayer and have a family meal and some like to go out to a restaurant.

Monet vertailevat muslimien Eid juhlaa jouluun. Jotain eroavaisuuksiakin on. Me muslimit annamme pieniä lahjoja vain lapsille, kun taas joulusta on tullut hyvin kaupallinen juhla. Eid juhlaa ei tule juhlia liian isosti, koska juhlan uskonnollista alkuperää ei saisi unohtaa.

Many people compare Muslim's Eid feast to Christmas. In a way they do are the same because both of them are a religious holiday which are celebrated with the family. There are some differences also. We Muslims give small gifts only to children while Christmas has become more commercialized feast. The Eid should not be celebrated too big because the holiday's religious background should not be forgotten.

Samana päivänä illalla tapasimme kaikki tytöt Turun keskustassa. Kävimme hakemassa jäätelöt ja kävelimme kohti Aurajokea. Vietimme yhteistä aikaa muutaman koomikkoesityksen merkeissä kauniissa maisemassa.

That very same day in the evening we all girls met each other in city center of Turku. We all went to grab some ice cream and walked towards Aurajoki river. We spend quality time together with little comic performance in a beautiful landscape.

The third day of Eid we decided to go for a barbecue to Ruissalo. On that day it was predicted to rain but we still decided go out. In the beginning everything was fine and sunny but when we finished barbecuing  the first round  it starts pouring rain. Luckily there was a canopy next to us, so together we moved all our stuff under it. We were about 20 people so you can image the amount of the stuff. There was not enough room for us and the stuff. We were creative so we decided to put all our hand bags to big black garbage bag. We were laughing the whole time while moving the stuff under the canopy. :)

Jälkiruokamme. Jättivesimeloni (n. 15 kg)
Our dessert. Huge watermelon (ca. 15 kg)

Onneksi ei satanu kauan. Kun olimme täynnä, päätimme mennä pienelle kävelylle Ruissalon rantaan. Tosi kauniin rauhoittava näkymä.

The rain did not last for a long time. After we were full we decided to go for a walk along the beach. Really nice calming view.

Now it feels so weird that I can eat again during the daytime. In the daytime I do not feel that hungry. I personally have eaten a lot of sweets after the end of Ramadan, not so much actual food. During the Ramadan I was able to eat only food and there were no room for sweets because my stomached got full after a small meal. :) I guess I have to balance the sugar level now somehow, don't I? :)
